Student Trainee (Food Service Worker)

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. The Food Service Worker performs routine manual tasks with few steps which are easily learned in support of patient food service activities; including delivery of meal trays to patient care units, dish washing, ware washing, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. The position duties include:
set up of serving areas; assemble plates, trays, portion and serve food, set up of food and drink serving stations, loading tray carts and deliver meals, assisting in covering, dating, and storing food, cleaning food service equipment, disassembling, cleaning, sanitizing, assembling and storing a variety of food service equipment, cleaning floors, counters, tables, or other work areas following standard sanitation practices, and cleaning dining area. A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. The Food Service Worker performs work that requires light to moderate physical effort subject to continuous standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing more than 20 pounds with the assistance of other workers. Sweeps, vacuums and spot mops floors as required. Must be alert and cautious to avoid falls on wet floors and burns or scalds from hot food, equipment and chemicals and cuts from knives. Work Environment:
The work is performed in kitchen areas where the stream and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lit but is usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. The worker is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. The Food Service Worker is required to wear protective shoes and gloves or other items required by food handling guides. Must be clean and neat at all times and in proper uniform.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
