Product Development Engineer - Consumer Products - industry leader
The Product Development Engineer will serve as a key member within our client's Design Engineering team. Primary responsibilities for this role will be focused to new product development which will involve design and develop new components for products, which includes: structural, thermal and packaging functions.
Primary Position Responsibilities/Functions:
Engineer components to improve overall design concepts following regulatory standards and input from industrial designers, using sound engineering principles.
Evaluate design alternatives based on cost, quality and production feasibility.
Coordinate project work starting at industrial design conception through production implementation.
Work with suppliers to optimize designs for production and interact with designers to document designs.
Establish test procedures to prove design concepts.
Perform solid modeling/drafting duties as necessary.
Provide critical dimensions and tolerances to produce engineering drawings.
Document design changes, providing required information to all departments.
Review component inspection reports to verify compliance with company standards.
Provide installation instructions and operation information for field service following applicable company policy.
Interact with manufacturing, quality, and line personnel to implement new designs into production.
Communicate design issues with customers through customer service representatives.
Experience and Knowledge Required:
Four-year engineering degree required, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Minimum of (3) three years of design experience in related field/manufacturing environment.
Experience using CAD software required (Solidworks strongly preferred).
Experience with design and production of consumer goods preferred.
Experience with sheet metal fabrication and injection molding.
Experience with formulating design alternatives to achieve desired industrial design concepts.
Ability to work in environments experiencing routine and rapid change.
Excellent organization and decision making skills.
High level of energy and enthusiasm.
