The Accounting Policy and Research Manager leads the accounting assessment for all complex and unusual transactions and the implementation of new accounting pronouncements. This role also leads the development and communication of the Company's financial results used by the executive team.
Ensures the company complies with applicable accounting standards by serving as a key US GAAP expert. Leads projects related to the adoption and timely implementation of new accounting pronouncements across all areas of the company in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
Leads accounting-related, qualitative and quantitative analysis projects associated with potential acquisitions, investments, mergers, divestitures, financings, capital projects and other proposed transactions that require review by the Executive Review and Risk Committee and/or Board of Directors. Provides associated consulting
services
to operating units as required.
Leads the development and communication of monthly financial reports for use by the Chief Accounting Officer and other members of the executive team.
As a key technical accounting research resource, establishes and monitors corporate accounting policies and their compliance with relevant authoritative accounting guidance. Keeps abreast of all current accounting standards initiatives, keeps the organization informed of such activities as necessary, and drafts comments on behalf of the company to regulatory bodies. Serves as a liaison for related accounting and financial activities and projects as well as for various Securities and Exchange Commission filing requirements, including research of rules, laws and regulations and peer reviews.
Supports regulatory audits and provides accounting responses to inquiries received from regulatory agencies.
Monitors regulatory and legislative initiatives that may impact the accounting department and keeps management team members informed of the relevant issues.
Keeps members of the management team fully informed of the status of the projects assigned, as well as relevant accounting-related issues that may arise from such projects. Leads the training of qualified staff for the Chief Accounting Officer group.
All other duties as assigned.
Education and/or experience equivalent to a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in accounting. Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
Five to twelve years technical and/or professional experience in accounting including Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Regulatory accounting including utility industry experience is preferred.
A minimum of three years of experience from a national public accounting firm. Big 4 experience preferred.
Demonstrated US GAAP skills required.
Demonstrated strong analytical and project management skills.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to use
computer
software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
