Personal Lines Underwriting Manager (Hybrid)

Compensation Minimum:
$103,500 / year Compensation Maximum:
$165,700 / year Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location.
The Underwriting Manager provides oversight and direction for the State Underwriting teams with key accountability for maintaining/improving profitability and growth of Personal Lines products as it relates to UW Operations.
You will collaborate with PL leadership on underwriting guidelines maintenance and documentation.
You will partner with strategic business units to implement strategies to drive underwriting performance while managing appropriate risk for the Personal Lines book of business.
You will provide input to establish technology strategies that support underwriting initiatives, align with the profit and growth plan, and positively impact customer service.
You will report to the Underwriting Area Manager.
Primary Accountabilities You will establish and maintain underwriting integrity and standards for risk selection and compliance with regulatory agencies to meet corporate, divisional and department goals.
You will provide oversight for monitoring adherence to underwriting guidelines and may get involved with escalated complex underwriting decisions.
You will provide oversight of effective problem resolution practices that responds to insurance department and consumer affairs complaints; claims problem resolution which includes contract interpretation, reformations, claims committees and ab initio considerations; and escalated or sensitive issues arising from internal and external customers including the field force.
You will analyze underwriting and performance to ensure desired business results.
You will exhibit lean leader behaviors and utilizes lean tools and methodologies to create operational efficiencies, employee engagement and customer satisfaction.
You will partner with Product Management and UW Ops Support Services and others to provide oversight of the administration of file audits, performance of underwriters and agents to determine that risk selection criteria, policies, and procedures are followed and properly implemented.
You will provide oversight for communications and interactions with sales management, the field force, and services regarding underwriting strategies, objectives, procedures and changes that will impact the field.
You will maintain positive relationships with sales management to resolve problems and improve results and underwriting performance.
You will manage direct reports, systems, and projects to achieve department/unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
You will develop staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments, and establishing performance & development plans.
Qualifications:
Prior leadership experience Extensive personal lines underwriting experience This position is a hybrid role that involves working a minimum of 10 days per month in the office.
