The Morgridge Institute for Research is seeking 2 Systems Administrators who will provision, operate, monitor and support a multi-platform server and storage infrastructure for the Core Computational Technologies group. The system administrator will work closely with software, security and network personnel to ensure the security, availability and continuous operation of the facility.
In addition, this position will:
Install and configure switches, routers, firewalls, and VOIP systems
Maintain the Network Cabling Physical Plant
Configure and maintain the JACE and IBA System
Assist with the maintenance of the Data Center
Provision, configure and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers and storage systems
Install and configure operating systems and software
Ensure systems are kept up to date with the latest software releases and patches
Monitor servers using industry standard practices and tools like Nagios and Ganglia and integrate with other monitoring systems as needed
Automate repetitive administrative tasks
Assist with planning implementations, migrations, and maintenance of the infrastructure
Monitor infrastructure efforts periodically and provides assessment reports to management on status and recommendations for improvements
Provide documentation of all infrastructure areas maintained
Maintain records, logs and reports of assistance
Maintain infrastructure preventive maintenance logging efforts to ensure network and data integrity
Test new software/hardware applications and recommend purchases where required
Provide second and third tier support for customer facing systems and assist staff with technical questions
We are seeking candidates who have at least an associate's degree in information technology, computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience. Entry level to 2 years of infrastructure/network support or related experience is desired. Candidates also must exhibit excellent customer service and communication skills as well as the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Ideal candidates will possess knowledge of the following:
Technology environments including LAN/WAN, UNIX, Linux, Windows, Apple/Mac; Virtual server environment; storage solutions including RAID, SANs and direct attached storage
Server room facilities like power, cooling and network distribution systems
LAMP-based (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PhP) web server environments
Software development environments like Git, CVS and Subversion
Scripting languages like shell, Perl and Python
Configuration management systems like Puppet, Chef and CFengine
High-performance or high-throughput computing systems like Condor, PBS, SGE is a plus
